We absolutely love The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — we’ve visited at Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Hollywood AND Universal Studios Japan. We even have 25 tips for making the most of your time at the attraction. Now, we’re sharing our suggestions for where to eat at Wizarding World of Harry Potter, too!
Around the world, the menus are pretty much the same. Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling is notorious for wanting everything to be accurate and consistent. We can\’t say we blame her. It\’s cool to know you\’ll have the same experience at Wizarding World of Harry Potter across all of the Universal Parks!
Most of the food is inspired by the books/films as well as British culture. Josh has a very American palate, but he\’s thoroughly enjoyed every meal we\’ve had. Also, considering it’s at a theme park, the prices are relatively reasonable and the portions are great. Be sure to scroll down for our tips on how you can save a little money, too!
Restaurants and Food Carts
You’ll find Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Universal Studios Japan. The incredibly-themed area perfectly captures the snowy village from the films so well that you might even wonder if Harry, Hermione and Ron are just around the corner! While you\’re fully caught up in the magic, here are the food and drink options you will find at Hogsmeade:
- The Three Broomsticks
- Hog’s Head
- Butterbeer carts
If you choose to head over to Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida (you really should, if you can!), you\’ll have an even bigger selection. In addition to being an awe-inspiring, immersive area (you\’ll really feel like you\’re preparing for the upcoming year at Hogwarts!), there are more food and drink options. Here’s what you’ll find:
- The Leaky Cauldron
- The Hopping Pot
- Eternelle’s Elixir of Refreshment
- The Fountain of Fair Fortune
- Butterbeer carts
Universal uses the tight park space so efficiently, so you definitely won’t go hungry, no matter which attraction you visit. Just be sure to look in every corner because the carts aren\’t always obvious. You an easily have breakfast, lunch, dinner and treats without leaving Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley, so you can spend a full day feeling like you\’re really in the wizarding world.
That being said, we absolutely love The Three Broomsticks at Diagon Alley, and highly recommend checking it out, if you can swing it. Along with Honeydukes, it\’s our favorite place to grab a bite at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We can\’t wait to go back!
What to Eat at Wizarding World of Harry Potter
We’ve tried a lot of different things, but as I just said, The Three Broomsticks (see menu) just comes out on top. The location is brighter and more open than The Leaky Cauldron (see menu), which is a bit cramped with more of a pub feel. Don\’t get me wrong, we love all things Harry Potter, but we like having a bit more space while eating — especially with kids!
At The Three Broomsticks, we really love the Rotisserie Smoked Chicken Platter or the Chicken and Ribs Platter. The chicken is very flavorful and juicy, and the ribs are pretty tender. Both come with corn on the cob and roasted potatoes, but they will let you swap out the sides if you want! We\’ve tried a variety of combinations and agree that the corn on the cob is always a must!
We’ve also tried the Beef Pasties. I’m a huge fan of meat pies in general, so I knew I\’d have to order this! From the tourtières I ate growing up in Canada to Jamaican patties that I\’ll even buy from 7-11, there\’s just something about meat-filled flaky pastries that I can\’t resist. While I wouldn\’t say I\’d eat these every day, I’d definitely have them again especially because, at $9.99 (including a salad). It’s a great deal!
For Caleb, we stuck with a kids’ portion of macaroni and cheese. He seemed to enjoy it and he\’s notoriously picky about mac and cheese (his favorite is from Noodles & Company!). His kids meal came with grapes and applesauce, but they let us swap out for fries. He loves fruit, but wanted some junk food that day. We get it!
What to Drink at Wizarding World of Harry Potter
You can’t go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and not have a Butterbeer. Okay, that statement sounds like peer pressure — and it\’s totally inconsiderate if you have dietary constraints — but if you can do it, please try the Butterbeer! There are few things more iconic from the films than this frothy drink! Just think of bashful, embarrassed Hermione wiping away her Butterbeer mustache in front of Ron. She was willing to get so messy because the drink is DELICIOUS!
There are a number of places to wet your whistle at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and after hours in the hot Florida sun, you\’ll be looking! At The Fountain of Fair Fortune (at Diagon Alley), carts, and all the restaurants, you can get the following:
- Butterbeer
- Frozen Butterbeer (the best!)
- Warm Butterbeer (seasonal)
- Pumpkin Juice
- Gillywater (bottled water)
- Fishy Green Ale
- Otter’s Fizzy Orange Juice
Don’t let the name fool you, of course. In case you\’re unfamiliar, Butterbeer is a non-alcoholic beverage. It\’s creamy, smooth and tastes a bit like butterscotch. It’s very, very sweet, so if you\’re sensitive to that kind of thing, you may want to buy one and share it (more on that in a bit!
The offerings at Eternelle’s Elixir of Refreshment (Diagon Alley) are pretty whimsical. In fact, grabbing a tasty beverage from here may leave you feeling like a potions master, kind of like Harry Potter when he was secretly using the half blood prince\’s textbook to impress Professor Slughorn! You can have elixirs combined with water to make cool concoctions including:
- Fire Protection Potion
- Babbling Beverage
- Draught of Peace
- Elixir to Induce Euphoria
Whether you\’re at the park on a scorching, hot day or simply need a pick-me-up after hours of exploring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you will want to have something refreshing. These drinks will definitely hit the spot. Stay hydrated, my friends!
Sweets and Treats
Spending a day soaring over the Forbidden Forest, trying on robes, and practicing magic can really work up and appetite. Even if you\’ve filled up at the Three Broomsticks or Leaky Cauldron, you will definitely have room for dessert — especially after taking a look at the display cases! Everything is so beautiful that you\’ll want to have a taste!
How cool is it that Harry Potter fans can just stroll into Honeydukes (Hogsmeade) or Sugar Plum’s Sweets Shop (Diagon Alley) for sweets and candies? It feels like a dream every time I walk into those shops (okay, that\’s not true — sometimes the crowds make it feel more like a nightmare, but in the end, it\’s worth it)! Here\’s what you\’ll find:
- Acid Pops
- Cauldron Cakes
- Fizzing Whizzbees
- Chocolate Frogs
- Bertie Bott\’s Every Flavour Beans
A quick note on this — if you\’ve never tried Bertie Bott\’s Every Flavour Beans, please be aware that some of the flavors are truly nasty. Be sure your child understands that earwax and vomit beans will taste exactly how they sound. While it\’s fun to experience this at least once, the novelty wears off for young fans very quickly.
For the ultimate in decadence, find your way to Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour. Die-hard fans will know that this is where Harry indulged in many goodies in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. A word of caution — once you\’ve had tried the flavors at this ice cream shop, nothing else will ever compare. You\’ve been warned! Here’s what you’ll find:
- Scoop and soft-serve ice cream flavors like Butterbeer, Granny Smith, Earl Grey and Lavender, Chocolate Chili, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Salted Caramel Blondie, Chocolate and Raspberry, and more
- Pumpkin Juice
- Ciders, teas, and water
- Pastries such as Battenberg cake, crumble cake, and shortbread (available in the morning)
While we haven\’t tried it (yet!), many people enjoy having a scoop of the Butterbeer ice cream added to their cup of Butterbeer. Sounds pretty sweet, but if you can\’t indulge in some decadence at Wizarding World of Harry Potter, is it even worth going?
Ways to Save at Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Even if you score a great deal, traveling as a family can be expensive. We’ve had to work on finding ways to save money, especially since small children tend to waste food. We can’t tell you how many times we bought a bowl of macaroni and cheese, only to have it go untouched 🙂 We\’ve been lucky in that Universal does have some great options at relatively reasonable prices.
It\’s worth noting that some guests swear by the Universal Orlando Dining Plan (this does not appear to be offered at other Universal parks worldwide). Once you\’ve chosen a plan option, you pay a set price and have a specific number of credits for meals, snacks, and/or drinks. We\’ve never tried it, so it\’s probably best for me to not even try to explain. We can say that it may help make meal planning simpler!
Of course, you\’ll have greater variety if you\’re able to go to both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, but these tips should work at either attraction. Here are some of the easiest ways to save on food and drink at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter:
- At The Three Broomsticks or Leaky Cauldron – order a family meal or buy the Rotisserie Chicken/Chicken & Ribs platters. Choose two different sides based on what your kids want and split it between them. It’s more than enough food for an adult and child — or several children — to share.
- Drink water whenever and wherever you can. It’s free and you still walk away with a Wizarding World of Harry Potter cup. In fact, keep it safe for our next tip!
- Share Butterbeer with or between small kids. There’s a lot of sugar in those cups of Butterbeer. Sometimes, I want to taste it but not drink the whole thing. Use a leftover water cup and just split one between two or even three people.
- Get a bag of sweets (such as the candy floss at Honeydukes) and split it between multiple kids/people.
I\’m sure we\’re forgetting something, so we\’ll update this guide for where to eat at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter regularly. Please bookmark this post and check often for more suggestions. With every trip, we learn something new so we\’ll be sharing our insight as we go along. We definitely had a very different experience when we went as a couple, than when we took Caleb along. It is always great traveling as a family, but we might need to do an adults-only trip again!
We also love learning from our readers. What are your favorite tips and tricks for what to eat at Wizarding World of Harry Potter? We’d love to hear more because we learn something new every trip. Leave us a comment!
